one of my favriot tatics is to take advantage of the exterminator and leave it on the back lihje
right next to my anihalator so i can blow away tanks of weaken a squad for my blood claws
also dont waist your time with 15 man blood claws go for 10s and a rhino because a 15 is not
likley to make it across the board but a 10 and a rhino is and just field a 10 man grey hunter
with only bolters as they are next to useless in a assult oh one more thing on bc's dont give em
plasma pistols only power weapons meltagun and a power fist that is a good combo it can kill
quite a few things also dont igore the venerable dreadnaght
it has superb specal abbilites and a good battel leader and body guard can be usefull in termy
armor for suporting attacks or ire power also the bikes are not really all that expensive for all
the things they do i sugest you invest in them and give them a battel leader as well.

I concur with the use of the Crusader. However, due to points I don't use a rune priest. I
mount a Wolf priest on a bike and give him some Fen. Wolves and send him with the other
Blood Claw Bikers. I also use two squads of Grey Hunters in Rhinos. I always go for the
smoke launchers too. I use a command squad in a Land Raider Promethesus too. Depending
on the points of the game I will use a Drop pod for a Venerable Dreadnought and of course
Scouts. Everything is geared for close combat so the rey Hunters have Close Combat
weapons, one power weapon and one power fist. The Blood Claws have one flamer, one
power weapon and one power fist.

My exterminator, while designed to take out hordes of unarmored troops, has been
PHENOMENAL in reducing space marine squads to piles of husking power-armor shells.

In one battle, it took out 15 blood angels, and their rhino.

In a second battle, it took out a terminator and a rhino (had a bad day)

In the third battle, it took out 4 of 7 dark angel bikes from a 5-bike/1 attack bike/1 chaplain
 on bike squad

In the most recent battle, in a single round of fire, it cut a black templar tactical squad from ten
to five. A tactical error on my part allowed it to melt under the tender loving care of an eversol
assassin with meltabombs, so that was considered another bad day.

So far, the tank proves a worthy adversary because
 A) with 13 shots (and 2 re-rolls if the AC misses) I'm bound to kill SOMETHING every turn,
and usually more than one of them.

 B) with S7 primary weapon, can challenge anything but toughest armor.

 C) With Front Armor 14, makes an excellent target (big and prominent on the battlefield) for
heavy weapons, instead of my TL Lascannon Venerable and TL Lascannon razorback --
who then live a little longer to take out whatever's shooting at the Leman.

At a cost of 215 points it's an effective killing machine. It has not killed its own point-value
(except for the BA massacre).. but the number of points it's saved by being a target, included
with the damage its done, has made it more than worth it to me.

Blimey! I couldnt read that without taking a breath. Unfortunately I had to make up the
punctuation in there as it seemed to have gone walkies!

Ah well. Not all of us have the joys of spell checkers.

 Anyway, nice thread start.

I have approx 3000 points of the Space Puppies myself now.
Not all entirely fieldable though as I have more than I need. Ie I have Blood Claws set with
WYSIWYG incase i want to field 15 with 3 power fists, or 3 power weapons.
Usually I field the BC's in 9's with 2 power weapons, and attach a Rune Priest and put them in
a Rhino. I also use Flamers with these guys as it autohits and hasnt got to rely on the BS of 3.

My Grey Hunters are typically armed with a meltagun, plasma pistols/power weapons. With a
BS of 4 it makes the meltagun/plasma pistols hit more often than not.

I also deply a tooled up scout unit against armoured units. 6 scouts with 2 plasma, 2 power
and a meltagun with meltabombs do untold damage behind enemy lines.

Have a look at some of my pics on
 http://communities.msn.co.uk/spacewolves

Its got my complete army list on here too.

I like my Leman Russ Exterminator! Pic on the above site!
I also have a Whirlwind for use in the 1000 point games.

My Long Fangs can be changed depending on enemy/scenario too. I only field the one pack
but have 2 lascannon, 2 heavy bolter, 2 missile launcher and a plasmacannon &multimelta to
 choose from.
Usually the lascannons and hvy bolters come out to play.

 thats about it from me!

happy gaming to all Puppy commanders!

And for the REQUIRED second HQ choice??? Umm thgis list is illegal! You need 2 HQ's for
1000 point games my Russ following friend!
You have success with a Long Fang pack straight out of the box?! Thats a rarity on its own.
Try having 2x2 of the same weapon. Ie 2 las cannons and 2 missile launchers. With split fire
rules this will be far more effective. Trust me!

The troop choice is nice though. But when you add the required second HQ, this will hit
 nearly 1150 points....

Sorry my furry friend! It's NOT how you round up! Per the codex every 750 or PART
thereof has to have an HQ. This isn't optional!
I've just bought a crusader for one of my blood claws and this takes me up over the next 750
multiple so I've had to get another wolf guard battle leader (converting up the assault sergeant
with grenade) so that my full army could be fielded if I wanted, nearly 5000pts!!!

My previous army list is also on KrakGrenades community site, take a look, the list is too long
to put up here. (My pc isn't capable of staying on line long enough for me to type it up, and I
can't get the cut&paste thing going at all!)

Blood Angels Brother Edward, if you're thinking of going sw's Welcome to the kennel!!
Maybe you could also contribute to the Space Wolves section of the community site? before
you load up to your site naturally!!!!

OK, Krak there's another plug for you mate!

Sorry about the CAPITALS. I wasnt trying to be sarky - honest!
I just wanted to make a point about it.

Cheers Harkon me old furry friend!

Just to clarify the rounding of points...
 0-750 = 1 HQ
 751 - 1500 = 2 HQ
 1501 - 2250 = 3HQ
 2251 - 3000 = 4 HQ

You dont round down lol, its for every 750 or part thereof.
Hope to see the revised list soon Mr CreepinJ.

PS Harkon - keep up the shameful plugs... *ego boost*

An army is rounded up fully, and therefore anything from 1995 points is really classed as a
2000 point army. Besides, are you gonna tell your opponent, oh you can't field a 2000 point
army against me, my army is only 1999 points...

And I doubt he used the caps (just a tought) for one word many people use a shift key :)

       LISTEN TO MY ADVICE . (8 Replies). TheGreatWolf[]. 2/1/2002 15:09 (2/3/2002 6:56)
Thank you fellow Wolf Lords, this is exactly how i wanted this to happen. but now its time of
The Great Wolf to share his wisdom of the battlefield
This is how you use your troop choices on an army of about 1500 to 2000 pts.

 10 Blood Claws [1 flamer, 1 powerfist, 1 power weapon] + Rhino
10 Grey Hunters [1 meltagun, 1 Power weapon] + Razorback
 10 Blood Claws [1 Flamer, 1 Powerfist, 1 Power weapon] + Rhino

this is what ive found to be the ULTIMATE troop selection, a bit costly but wait till you see it
in action. You have to trust your 'Old Wolf' on this one.
a great tactic to use with these is to have another unit alongside it. this unit is:

 HQ
1 Wold Lord + 4 Wolf Guard Bodyguard + Land Raider
 [Terminator armour,
 Assault cannon,
 cyclone missile launcher]

this is another recipie i have come up with, it is too costly but adding both this HQ choice and
the troops what do you need apart from a venerable Dreadnought.

Tactics: load the Rhinos, razorback and the Land raider and drive them right into the thick of
the battle. Then they all unload, keeping the transports right behind them.
The Blood Claws jump right into Hand-To-Hand
The Grey Hunters fire at any units not in combat
The HQ choice can now either charge into H-to-H or it can use the assault cannon and the
missiles to make a devistating blow.
and to top it all off, the transports didnt just provide a safe journey to the battle the land raider
equipped with lasscannons can takeout and tanks or walkers or a crusader with its 12 bolters
can takeout even more infantry (handy for fighting orcs)

So there is my very longwinded tactics.

If you let me guide you can achieve lots more as i am willing to share my wisdom

Load the Razorback? with who? 10 Grey Hunters? I didnt know they were aloowed to sit on
 each others laps!
I think the math is a little out my fellow Wolf Lord!

Its also not the most fludd based composition. Although many SW commanders dont play for
the fluff, I know many do they chose the chapter because it has the best history of the SM's.
there should be more Grey Hunters than Blood Claws, but it is just nit picking really.

 >> 1 Wold Lord + 4 Wolf Guard Bodyguard + Land Raider
 >> [Terminator armour,
 >> Assault cannon,
 >> cyclone missile launcher]

In a 1500 to 2000 points battle I wouldnt field a seperate HQ and bodyguard in Termie
Armour. Its an awful lot of points to spend expecially with a Crusader or MK3. the points
could be spent better elsewhere - but hey its your retinue and if it works then thats cool with
 me!
Id certainly use this combo at around 2500 to 3000 no probs.

Ill have to dig up my 1000 pointer force with ther points on.
 Basically it goes like...
Wolf Guard Battle Leader, MC plasma pistol, lighning claw & wargear - power armour

Rune Priest with frostbade and MC bolt pistol + wargear

9 blood claws, flamer, power wpn, Rhino with armour and smoke
9 Grey Hunters, meltagun, power wpns, Rhino with armour and smoke

 Whirlwind

The 2 HQ's lead the packs.

Cant remember if I got 4 scouts in there or another pack or hunters. Ill have to look it up, its
 on my puter somewhere...!
Might have had a WGL as well, oh i dunno!

 Happy gaming all.

That is when i use the combo. sorry, i didnt mention this but your right, if anyone used this
tactic on a 1500 - 2000 pt army, that would prettly much be the whole army.

Also, i am very fond of my younger wolf brothers the blood calws. there is nothing more
satisfying than seeing my youngsters quench their thirst for blood. this is just 1 of my MANY
tactics. another tactic is to have 3 Grey hunters and 1 Blood Claw pack infront of them (used
againt Chaos), the Grey Hunters Take out any models that cant resist the temptation of
charging the Claws in H-to-H. of course the dreadnought is there to provide firepower or help
in H-to-H if things get nasty. this is too a tactic for quite a small army.

                   I dont play SW but i have some advice . (0 Replies). WarpExarch[]. 2/2/2002 14:37 (2/2/2002
 14:37)
My black legion recently barely fought off a SW force. His forces:

9 grey hunters in rhino, 1 power weapon, 1 flamer
9 Blood claws in rhino 1 w/power weapon
Runepriest in termie armour w/ power weapon
Wolf Lord in artificer armour with powerfist and meltagun
Predator w/ 2-linked lascannon and lascannon sponsons
 Whirlwind

 My forces:

1 predator with nurgle infestation, autocannon and lascannon sponsons
 7 marines, 1 lascannon
8 marines, 1 hvy bolter in rhino
Chaos lord with termie armour, power weapon and combi-flamer
 5 termies, 1 w/autocannon, 3 w/ cc weapons, 1 w/powerfist 1 w/chainfist, 3 combiflamers
 and one combi-melta
12 khorne berserkers 1 w/plasma pistol, champ with chaos armour and power weapon
 1 Juggernaut of khorne
 3 obliterators

He blitzed me with both of his troops choices, and thanks to their (crappy) sweeping assault,
he chewed through nearly half my army, then died to a combined shoot of ALL of my
remaining troops. his remaining runepreist and wolf lord manadged to knock off so many of
my guys that at the end, I only had the heavybolter guy and my predator left. My heavy bolter
got the award of most valuable, for killing his runepriest (in cc, no less!)

Moral of the story: all troops can be used as effective assault troops, and shouldn't be
 underestimated.

True, you can use a Razorback, but it can only hold 6 men not 10 as you suggested to rush

This was the point i was making in the earlier thread about Hunters Taking razorbacks!!!!
And you went off all quoting rules and stuff....
YES They can have one but only when the pack is 6 strong hence the pack size is 6-10
 models!
(This always amused me about the BC entry and says that BC cannot have razorbacks as
they are reserved for senior units - but then the pack min is 8 - so they cant fit in it anyway!
 DUH!)

I hope you 'fess up to your mates that you have been a naughty boy. You must report to the

       Wisdom of the Sagas . (0 Replies). Wolfpoet[]. 2/1/2002 18:51 (2/1/2002 18:51)
Brothers, it is good that we are sharing our wisdom. Now my fellow wolves, step into the
circle and listen to the wisdom of the Sagas.

First among all other considerations is our natures, we are Wolves made manifest. And such
 our tactics must reflect this.
Our packs must work as one, while the young Blood Claws charge forward the wiser Grey
 Hunters must advance in support.

One Blood claw pack should advance down the center, finding glory in the chase. One Grey
hunter pack should advance alongside each flank and support the Blood claws.
Behind these three packs the Venerable dreadnought shall follow the advance, adding his
 firepower to the fray.
The Wolf Lord with his bodyguard should be mounted in one of the rare Land Raider
Crusaders and take one flank, while the wolf scouts infiltrate the foe and eliminate his support
 assets.

Thus my Brothers is the battle won and your place in the Sagas assured!

I personally only thik they're good in a defensive game. My stratagy is to pray for a mission
with deep strike, and then load up on squads of 15 Blood Claws with 3 Power weapons/fists
(depending on who I'm playing) and deep strike the whole army with drop pods. Then, bring
on the close combat! Oh, and try to stay more then 12" away from enemys with your blood
claws, and get as close as you can with your grey hunters. And be sure to give wolf tooth
neclaces to every one you can. (I've seen a Court of the Young King get wiped out thanks to
them.) As you can see I'm a little obsesed with HtH. Oh, and if you can't deep strike, get lots
 of Rhinos.

Well thats my advice, and it works for me. Oh, and build some city terain because Space
Wolves SLAUGHTER in city fight! You count ALL attacks within 6", which makes a squad
of 15 charging Blood Claws EXTREAMLY effective.

Any way, if any one wants to comment or point out flaws in my strategy, feel free, and I hope

How do you justifythe fluff on all these blood claws, or don't you bother?
To me the fluff is important, but I can see ways of explaining disproportionate amounts of
claws in certain cases. However I personally don't like power gaming, I'd rather play and lose
than go out of character for my army and win.
 Guess that's just me.

i find that in my SW army its all about the transports. mounted every singal model in a traspost
save venerable dread (ALWAYS USE AS YOUR SECOND HQ CHOICE, why just today
i had da killa' take down 3 crisis suits in one turn. needless to say i won by turn 3, with the
enemy only having 10 gun drones left.) also if you use bikes hey i guess dont need transports.
anyway, weather you plan on shooting or assulting, transports are a must. against 'nids, you
probably wan to shoot, so rush to a nice forest where you can gun 'em all down then strike
first in HtH is need be. if you want to assult, transports are an obvious must. also, never
discount the effectivness of grey hunters wih bolters. they can gun down baddies when needed
and make good assult troops. also, its more fun to make 1 army list for any opponent, not
change it every time (i mean i be we could all make a list where he 'nids would NEVER get
into HtH). its more fun that way, and it forces you to adapt...

The army I'm forming is very mobile, with two squads of Grey Hunters in Rhinos (I'm waiting
for the new Rhino), Long Fangs in a Rhino (so they can shoot out), Blood Claws on Bikes,
Scouts (who are mobile to begin with), and the killer: a Wolf Lord with a Wolf Guard
bodyguard in terminator armor in a Crusader. This is a very points heavy unit, but it has high
mobility, and if you use the Great Wolf, Logan Grimnar, and the Great Company Banner, you
have 8 terminators (one of which is Logan himself) who can, once per game, charge with a
 minimum of 5 attacks each! (That's 2 (wolf guard)+1 (Charging)+1 (Logan's Call) +1 (Great
Company Banner). Any unit that survives 40+power weapon/fist attacks on turn one is
someone you should have avoided anyway!

Sorry to disappoint you my friend, but if the long fangs are splitting theur fire the Leader
cannot shoot!! Therefore when your bolter/ccw leader fires he is acting illegally in game terms
if you are splitting fire. It's in the codex mate!

Other than that not a bad army list, altho' some will say termies are too expensive, me I like
them and have quite a few myself, have a look at some army lists on this site:
