Tips for Fighting the Eldar

Drat you  Keveldramon for letting the secrets out, we shall curse your line until the end of time.

That said let me add a little. I use eldar somewhat differently than most. My favorite units are Rangers, Pathfinders, warp spiders and D-Cannons. I don't use wraithlords, reapers, banshees, and only 1-2 star cannons.

Eldar Rangers are the best snipers in the game. My aliatoc army usually has 19-25 at 1700 points. They have eldar long rifles (2+ to hit 4+ to wound AP1 on a 6 to hit roll) and shuriken pistols. remember the pistols. I have suprised many ork/DE/nid player with a sudden burst of 20 str4 ap5 shots from a sniper unit they were getting ready to assault. Pathfinders are even better with long rifles getting ap1 hits on a 4+ to hit roll. In an Aliatoc army all Rangers/Pathfinders get the chance to shoot/pin/put-in-reserve one unit non-vehicle each before the game starts. They can even shoot at reserves!

D-cannons, my joy. Guess range ST10 AP1 blast, using the ordinance pen table. A battery of these supported by a farseer using guide to reroll the scatter dice can (and has) shredded any kind of attack force. The only drawback is 24" range. I usually place these behind terrain and place the Avatar some guardians and Dire Avengers near. With a 24" kill zone transports don't make it and then the dismounted troops are fair game for the Avatar.

Warp Spiders are a key element of my style. 12" move with either 6" assault or 2d6 supplemental move they are fast. A 3+ save helps keep them safe as they are only toughness 3. Their weapon is rapid fire 12" range ST 6. Great for wounding anything and capable of dealing with light vehicles. The exarch is the key to this unit. He can give them the ability to withdraw from combat leaving you standing there under my guns. Imagine your rhino transports are ripped open by D-cannon fire, the surviving troops are assualted by Warp Spiders (the exarc is I6 with power weapons). At the end of your next turn the spiders warp away leaqving your troops clustered tightly in  range of the D-cannons. (repeat as necessary)

All that said for blood angels the tatics that work best against me are:

Don't assault me, its what I want you to try to do. Stay together and use long range heavy weapon fire. Use a mix of predators, razorbacks, dev squads and (shudder) whirlwinds.
Massed Heavy bolters are the way to go. Make me come to you. If you insist on an assault approach mount everyone and rush straight in. Don't hesistate, dont hold back. Cover does you no good (d-cannons) stay together and try to over run the main units. Present so many targets that I can'y stop all.

Eldar are in general a multi-purpose army. If you can foocus the battle on one aspect exclusively you deny part of there army any options. Remember in any one area the eldar troops excel at the expense of flexibility.
