Pieces of History

My wife Katherine and I share an interest in history,
here are some pics of some of the interesting things we've seen which relate to model shipbuilding,
or my love of history :)

Edward in the Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg Texas

Katherine (my beloved wife) really enjoyed the AA guns - no you can't have one Katherine! :)

Katherine, my sister, niece and brother in law and a WWII era ship's torpedo launcher

A bulkhead section from the Battleship Arizona removed during the efforts to rescue crewmembers still inside after she'd gone down. The black stains are from oil in the water.

A lifesize mockup of the Hornet's deck at the start of the Doolittle Raid.

A memorial stone for the U.S.S. Lexington

WWII era deck gun, I need to look through my notes to find the specific make.

A few pics from the D-Day Museum in New Orleans

Grumman TBF Avenger

LVT (Landing Vehicle Tracked) developed for use in the Pacific to enable landing forces to overcome hundreds of yards of submerged coral reefs which surrounded many Pacific islands causing much difficulty for more traditional landing craft.

The "Higgins Boat" Landing Craft used in both the Pacific and European Theaters - including D-Day.

The Sherman Tank, and in the background a Willis Jeep.
